ART/PHOTOGRAPHIC SHOW

What is it?

Horsham East Rotary Club Inc for over 36 years has provided a vehicle whereby artists/photographers, particularly local artists/photographers have the opportunity to showcase their work to visitors to the Exhibition.

This display of art including photographs, not readily available in the community, provides the opportunity to purchase art works. In fact since its inception, well over $100,000 has been raised and returned back to the Wimmera community. Such local projects have included Rotary House, Casurina Green Park Kindergarten, and Karkana Support Services.

The Wimmera Art Show compromises of the categories Best Painting, Oils, Acrylic, Water Colour, Under 12, Pairs, Best Local Artist, Mixed Media and Australian Landscapes. Popular Ballot is voted by visitors.

Whilst the Photography Exhibition will display the best 100 entries and is judged in September, the Wimmera Art Show entries are judged on the Friday morning prior to the Opening Night.

When is it?

Friday evening (Opening Night) October 9th - Sunday 11th, 2009, at the Horsham Town Hall.

What is the program for the Opening Night?

The theme for the evening is Paintings, Pics, Parties and more Jazz….. Rotarians are asked to wear 'all black' to help create the jazz atmosphere.

The University of Ballarat is our Major Sponsor and is recognised particularly on this occasion.
A smaller exhibition by artist, Emily Koenders, will be opened prior to the main opening.

The Judge awards the winning artists/photographers and approximately $10,000 will be distributed in prize money. The judge this year is yet to be announced.

After the main opening all art work is then for sale (Rotary receives 25% commission on each item sold) - this is the main focus to ensure that we make a profit, usually about $5,000 - $10,000 per annum.

Natimuk Swing Band with entertain guests.

Rotarians will be serving refreshments and the club will serve food to some 300 guests.

What happens during the weekend?

Rotarians are rostered over the weekend and provide security, accept any sales and generally keep the Town Hall tidy.

What is expected from Rotarians?

Each Rotarian has a responsibility to:

Ø Help collect the hanging display boards, arrange artwork and generally help set up for the Show.
Ø Actively promote and sell Opening Night tickets - $20.00 each.
Ø Actively promote and sell raffle tickets.
Ø Participate at the Opening Night in serving refreshments & food.
